Neurology
Chiropractic
is based in neurology.
The spine houses the
spinal cord (part of the central nervous system) and has openings that
allow nerves to branch off of the cord going to and from all parts of
the body.
If the spine is unhealthy, has postural distortions, moves improperly
or is lacking flexibility, there will be excessive tension in the spinal
cord. This tension will produce measurable changes in nerve function from
normal to abnormal. There will be less integration of nerve impulses in
the central nervous system (the spinal cord and brain) leading toward
health consequences.
Spinal problems, with resulting spinal cord tension, have no way of improving
unless action is taken to correct them. On the contrary, without care
there is a natural degenerative progression of these problems once they
exist.
Many health complaints have a neurological in basis. These include:
pain syndromes of the spine, extremities, face and head
problems with dizziness or balance
problems with breathing mechanics(can’t get a full breath)
problems that may be linked to the autonomic nervous system such
as digestive upset or rapid heart rate
problems with depression and anxiety
sleep disorders
